About Ivins goats

Our Story

The goats have a long history here in Ivins. They were originally owned by Jeff Collum, a friend of my grandpa’s, and were once kept in my grandpa Burton’s backyard. These goats were used to help create firebreaks and fight fires, and at one point, there were hundreds of them.

Eventually, there were simply too many goats for one person to manage in a backyard, prompting their move to a larger property. For many years, the goats continued to assist in fire prevention efforts while enjoying plenty of treats and attention.

Around 2022, Jeff became sick and had to relocate to California to be closer to his family, unable to care for the goats. my grandpa was left to take care of them, however, unfortunately, he was also battling cancer and kidney failure. With great sadness, he began finding homes for the goats until only about four or five remained.

That’s when I stepped in. At 14 years old, I decided to help care for a couple of the remaining goats, Valentine and her sweet baby boy, Nubs. I quickly fell in love with them—and with goats in general. Before long, I took over their care full-time.

Thankfully, the property owners allowed me to continue caring for the goats there. What began as a simple desire to help a few goats has transformed into something much bigger. I’ve dedicated the years since to supporting the goats and turning my passion for these animals into a full-time commitment and, hopefully, a future career.

These goats aren't just animals to me; they are a part of my family's history, a part of Ivins' history, and a huge part of my life. If you'd like to help, you can always donate to support their continued care and well-being.

My Passion!

I started caring for the goats when I was 14 years old. From buying hay to filling water and cleaning pens, I quickly realized this was the future I wanted. I've always loved animals, and I believe every one of them is unique—even the bugs! My dream is to preserve a small piece of Ivins and create a place where people can appreciate animals, nature, and the rural charm that makes our community so special.

Our Goats Health!

Our goats are my top priority. Everything I do is centered around their care, health, and future. My daily schedule revolves around them, and even when I’m not physically with the goats, I’m still working on their website, planning future projects, or searching for new opportunities to help them thrive.

The goats are fed every morning between 9–10 AM, checked on throughout the day, and brought back into their pasture around 8–9 PM. Their water is refreshed every morning and cleaned regularly to ensure they always have access to fresh, clean water. I keep up with routine hoof trimming as needed, monitor their health, and make sure any bullying or herd issues are addressed quickly to maintain a safe and happy environment.

Their well-being is always my first priority, and I am dedicated to providing them with the best care possible.

Our Future!

In the future, I would love to expand by adding more types of animals and creating a hands-on experience where people of all ages can learn about farm life. I hope to teach others how to properly care for animals, including skills like milking goats and safely handling farm animals.

A major goal of mine is to help inspire future generations of farmers. Agriculture is one of the most important industries in the world, and I hope to encourage more children to explore careers in farming and animal care.

My vision is to create a place where families can connect with animals, similar to a petting zoo, but with one important difference: the animals will always come first. Their health, happiness, and well-being will remain the top priority at all times. I also plan to create a 3D rendering showing what I hope the future of the goat area will look like.
